Sílvia Martí, Corporate Vice-President of Moventia, attended a series of seminars on women’s empowerment at the UAB School of Engineering on Friday.
Entitled ‘Women and Engineering: building the future’, this event forms part of a programme dedicated to offering professional guidance and empowering female students on the degree courses taught by the school.
A round table discussion entitled ‘The Future of Engineering’ was one of the highlights at the event, at which Sílvia Martí was able to share her experience and vision as a female executive at a leading multinational enterprise such as Moventia. Accompanied by Mar Porras, Marketing Manager at Ricoh; Meritxell Bautista, Executive Chairwoman at MANIX Capital and founder of Fibracat; and Vanessa Abad, Head of the Treatment Division at the El Vallès Oriental Waste Management Consortium, Sílvia Martí underlined the strategic importance of mobility in contemporary society.
“We need to understand mobility as an essential factor in how modern society works given that it impacts the economy, connectivity, quality of life and sustainability”, she explained during the event. She also highlighted the need for adequate planning and an investment in transport infrastructure and sustainable mobility options in order to tackle the challenges and harness the benefits offered by mobility in the world today.
Sílvia also discussed the requirements of working at a global company such as Moventia, saying that labour market trends in the mobility sector “are constantly evolving due to the rapid advancement of technology and growing awareness of sustainability issues. Some of the most highly sought-after skills today that we are looking to add to our workforce include strategic vision, strong technology profiles and a commitment to environmental and social sustainability”, she explained to the students attending the seminars.
Involvement by Sílvia and the other female business owners and leaders in these seminars not only inspired the UAB engineering students but also highlighted the importance of encouraging women to take up other professions, thereby helping to build a more equal and sustainable future.
