The Government Representative’s Office in Catalonia welcomed 25 Ukrainian children to its Barcelona headquarters on Tuesday. These young people from Ochakiv, a city affected by its proximity to the battlefront in southern Crimea, are the first to benefit from the ‘Holidays in Peace’ initiative being organised in Spain. It is an initiative being led by the Government Representative’s Office in Catalonia with a view to possible replication in other regions of the country.
Designed to offer moments of happiness and relief for children affected by conflict, the programme offers a wide range of activities. From Pineda de Mar to Salou and Calella de Mar, the young people will enjoy more than 20 days (from 26 April to 17 May) of excursions and unique experiences, including visits to outstanding tourist destinations in Barcelona, such as the Sagrada Familia and the Parc Güell.
The support provided by Moventia, one of the main mobility partners, is an essential part of this initiative. The company has undertaken to provide road transfer services for the group to hotels and the various visits, ensuring that everyone is safe and comfortable at all times.
The welcome ceremony presided over by the Central Government Representative in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, was also attended by the Mayor of Ochakiv, Serhii Bychkov, and the Consul General for Ukraine in Barcelona, Artem Vorobyov. Miquel Martí, Chairman of Moventia, was also present at the event alongside other partners of the initiative, underlining the group’s commitment to humanitarian causes and the wellbeing of the international community.
