Mobility is an essential part of our society and a cornerstone of the global challenge that is environmental sustainability. However, sustainable mobility is not just about consumption and the emissions produced by the engines in our vehicles but rather about a much broader concept that encompasses everything from manufacture to sale.
In this regard, the multinational family business that specialises in sustainable mobility, Moventia, and Endesa X (the energy services subsidiary of Endesa) have joined forces to outfit 12 work centres with photovoltaic power plants for self-supply.
These projects have been carried out at several bases and dealerships owned by the two business divisions in the group, Moventis and Movento. Specifically, they have been installed in Barcelona and Badalona (region of Barcelonès); in Begur (region of El Baix Empordà); in Cerdanyola del Vallès and Sabadell (region of El Vallès Occidental); in La Roca del Vallès (region of El Vallès Oriental); in Manresa (region of El Bages); and in Mataró (region of El Maresme).
In total, the 12 solar power plants and the total 1,308 solar panels that have been installed on the flat roofs of these work centres will produce a total power output of 713 kWp and approximately 1,059 MWh/year is expected to be generated for self-supply. This will cover approximately 30% of the group’s energy needs at these facilities and make some serious progress on its path towards sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint by 185.6 tonnes of CO2 per year, equal to the absorption capacity of 1,113 trees/year.
The remaining energy that Moventia needs to do business also comes from renewable sources under a contract with the marketing company of the Endesa group, Endesa Energía. Combined, the two initiatives will ensure that the company not only manages to reduce its environmental impact but also represent a major milestone while setting an example for other players in the automotive and collective mobility sectors regarding the adoption of tangible measures with a real impact on protecting the environment, both locally and globally.
This project is helping Moventia continue to develop its sustainability strategy with a view to building more efficient and environmentally-friendly collective and individual mobility. Today, the group operates in seven countries (on three continents), carries 215 million passengers and serves 136,000 customers per year at its dealerships and garages.
The Corporate Vice-President of Moventia, Sílvia Martí, said “This important milestone stems from our commitment to lead the sustainable mobility industry. For more than 100 years, Moventia has tirelessly worked to design innovative mobility solutions with a positive impact on society and the environment. For that reason, this project we have undertaken in partnership with Endesa X, a leading company in the energy sector, reflects our ongoing focus and firm commitment to developing a long-term strategy that can allow us to continue leading the change”.
